Useful adapter August 15, 2010 Jeffrey O'donnell (Mannheim, Germany) This is a very useful adapter for network engineers. Many newer laptops don't come with serial ports so you need to have an adapter like this to connect to a Cisco Console cable. It was easy to install and worked right away. It was hard to find in a brick & mortar store but Amazon had exactly what I was looking for.
The only one !!!!!!!!!! July 18, 2010 Ibrahim The only one USB to Serial that worked for me
i'm using windows 7 64 bit
and it worked without putting the CD
only plug and play
thank u
myplug and play adapter July 14, 2010 ORA WEST I purchased this adapter because I need to be able to load and transmit data from a program that required a serial cable. My laptop does not have a serial port, so I needed just the adapter to be able to plug the usb port with the adapter and plug the serial connection into the adapter that has the female port. Because this unit has plug and play, my computer recognized new hardware and the chip in the adapter automatic load and ran the software and I was off to being able to use he software and download the data. The price was reasonable. I am very satisfied with purchase.
OK for must uses - but still not a real UART June 4, 2010 Ray Price (Cincinnati, Ohio) First and foremost, this comm port was up and running on my windows 7 64-bit platform with no needed for the included CD - drivers were downloaded by Windows - terrific!
But, if you are looking for a serial device that supports asynchronous i/o and can reliably signal when the serial data has been transmitted - look elsewhere. This hardware/driver combination provides no mechanism to let you know when the physical transmission has actually completed.
Great Little Device April 27, 2010 Dr. Terrence McGarty (Cambridge, MA) I use this on my Windows 7 laptop when I needed to interface with an old Garmin Etrex GPS unit. I use it for taking some measurements in laying out fiber and wireless plans in New Hampshire to get a rough estimates o0f system layouts and I decided to use my old TROPO software as well rather than buying and installing the new software. It was installed instantly under Windows 7 and operated flawlessly. This is a very inexpensive way to keep some older equipment and software around. It installed so seamlessly that I was surprised since I did not even need the disk. That is one of the better features of Windows 7.
My only advice is be sure to remember what COM Port was installed, it was COM 4 on my system so I had to rest the TOPO software.
