Product Description
Tripp Lite's IEEE-1394b, or FireWire 800 cables, are the latest in FireWire technology, with data transfer speeds up to 800Mbps, twice the speed of original FireWire. The 9-pin to 6-pin FireWire 800 - FireWire cable (also known as a "bilingual" cable) will connect a 6-pin FireWire (1394a) device to a 9-pin FireWire 800 (1394b) port on a computer, or it will connect the 6-pin FireWire port on a computer to a 9-pin FireWire 800 device (FireWire 800 devices can achieve FireWire 800 speeds only when connected to a FireWire 800 port). These cables are 100% compatible with Apple FireWire, Sony iLink, and all other IEEE-1394b peripherals. Excellent Value April 14, 2010 David L. Herring (Twin Cities, MN United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It does exactly what it says. Where else will you get a cable for this price? Certainly not Best Buy or any other store. Fast shipping and affordability make this deal sweet. Will always return for my cable needs, and the needs of my studio.
DOES NOT WORK. April 14, 2010 S. Scarr 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Purchased two of these cables for use with my Motu Mk3 Ultralite Hybrid audio interface, and my Macbook Pro running OS X 10.6.3 (Motu unit has a 400 port, and my Macbook Pro has an 800 port exclusively). I tested all ports on each device with other computers and cables, which worked flawlessly. Using the Vortex 800 to 400 cable though was a different story:
I plugged the 400 side into the Motu unit, and the 800 side into the Macbook Pro. This action instantaneously shut off my Macbook Pro, as if it shorted somewhere inside the computer.
This is a dangerous cable, I am resorting to using the USB port on the Motu/Mac, and powering the Motu separately with an AC Adapter.
It was shipped and delivered quite ahead of time though, two days ahead of schedule to be exact. So I do verily appreciate that.
Extremely poor fit on 9 pin side February 10, 2010 Jonathan Birge (Cambridge, MA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This was my first Firewire cord, and I suspect the same is true of many of the positive reviewers here. Like them, I was originally very happy with this cord. It worked, and the price was fantastic. However, I noticed that the 9 pin connector was always very loose, and never "clicked" in place, even though I pushed the cord as far as it would go. My initial thought was "Boy, Firewire really has a bad connector design."
Well, after buying another Firewire cord from a more reputable source (LaCie) I discovered that Firewire cables are actually incredibly secure! There is just something very wrong with the design of these cords! As far as I can tell, the connector is a bit too short on the 800 end of these cables, and thus they can't be inserted far enough to engage the mechanism that locks them into place (i.e. the 'click' you feel when plugging in a USB cable, or a better made Firewire cable, it turns out).
As such, I recommend users stay far away from these cables. Sure, they're cheap, but if your cable comes out accidentally without you having properly unmounted your external drive, it's highly likely that your hard drive will be corrupted. It's worth it to buy good cables. Your data is worth a lot more than the few dollars saved by going with a cut-rate cable company.
Yup. It's a cable. February 5, 2010 Tech Dude (New Mexico, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Not much to review on a cable. It works. It was long enough.
