The name of this item is misleading. It is not USB, it is firewire, and not compatible with Windows 7. Do not buy this if you use Windows 7.

I was planning on using this as an alternative to firewire for my camcorder, but apparently IEEE 19yaddayadda wasn't the 4 pin mini-type USB equivalent... I probably should have checked that before hand. If you need it for the mini-USB thing then buy it; it's a very nice product.

I have Windows Vista, and I needed a cable for a Canon ZR 500. This is not a piece for Mini Dv cameras. I was not able to use it.
